Once again the United States Embassy in Tanzania invites applications for the United States government's Fulbright African Research Scholar Program (ASRSP) for the year 2009 - 2010 from qualified Tanzanians. The Fulbright ASRSP for the year 2009 -2010 consists of two programs: one for Senior Research Scholars grant and the other for Professional Development Grants.
Applicants must have excellent command of English and be Tanzanian citizens currently working in Tanzania. Applicants should have approval from their home institution.
*The African Senior Research Scholar grant is a three to nine months research award offered to African University faculty wishing to conduct research between August 2009 and March 2010 at a U.S Academic or Research Institution. It should be noted that such research grants do not cover research work for doctoral dissertation, postdoctoral degrees or travel and consultation at multiple institutions. Preference will be given to:
- Individuals who have at least three years of university teaching experience and a productive scholarly record and whose project research interest relate directly to their ongoing teaching or research responsibilities;
- Qualified candidates who have no previous experience or only limited experience in the U.S, or for those who have been in the U.S but not previously held Fulbright grants.
- Most successful research scholar applicants holding PhD degrees.
*The ASRSP for Professional Development provides opportunities to African Research Scholars to advance further in their professional development. Experienced university lecturers who do not hold PhD degrees are eligible in the professional development program but excludes doctoral dissertation research, postdoctoral research immediately following completion of PhD, or travel and consultation at multiple institutions.
Professional Development for three to five months will be offered for African university faculty to undertake a planned program of reading and research between August 2009 and March 2010 at a U.S academic or research institution. Proposals should be linked to professional duties such as classroom instruction, advising students, administration, university out-reach projects for teachers or other professionals and should demonstrate how the member would use the knowledge gained to develop new courses, curricula or programs at the home institution.
Preference will be given to individuals who have at least three years of university teaching or research experience and whose project proposals focus on updating their scholarly knowledge to improve classroom instruction and to contribute to the development of programs or curricula at their home institutions.
Scholars in a wide variety of disciplines - sociology and social work, anthropology, education, economics, law, public administration, communication, art, theater, medical sciences, biological sciences, psychology, for example are invited to formulate research proposals or professional development.
