Report Birth Abroad
The Consular Section can issue passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad to children of U.S. citizens born in Tanzania. Interested applicants should call (255) (22) 266-8001 x4122 for more information.
In order to document a child as a U.S. citizen and issue a passport the U.S. Department of State requires:
- The child's personal appearance;
- Local birth certificate of the child;
- Passports of both the child's Parents;
- Evidence of termination of parents' previous marriages; (if applicable)
- Two recent 2 x 2 inch color or black & white photos of your child with a white or light background;
- Completed passport application and Report or Birth Abroad forms;
- If only one parent is a U.S. citizen, that parent needs to provide proof of 5 years physical presence in the United States prior to the birth of the child (Acceptable forms of proof of physical presence in the U.S. include school transcripts and/ or presentation of all prior U.S. passports.)
All documents should be originals or certified copies and have English translations attached. In some instances, additional documents may be necessary. The current fee for the Consular Report of Birth Abroad is US$65.00. The passport fee is US$85.00. For additional information please call or e-mail the Consular Section. Fees may be paid in U.S. dollars, Tanzanian shillings, or by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Card). Overseas, we cannot accept personal checks.
