Consular Services
For U.S. Citizens
U.S. Embassy Dar es Salaam's Consular Section provides a wide-range of services for American citizens in Tanzania. Services include the issuance of U.S. passports, birth registrations, Selective Service registration, absentee voting assistance, federal benefits assistance, and general assistance to Americans with problems they are unable to solve on their own. The Consular Section also provides notary services for American citizens and for all nationalities whose documents are related to business in the United States. All relevant fees must be paid in U.S. dollars or Tanzanian Shillings. Personal checks and credit cards are not accepted.
In addition to the information described here, the Consular Section has more detailed information sheets on many of the services we provide. If you require additional help please do not hesitate to visit, call, or e-mail our office. The Consular Section provides American Citizen Services from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Fridays. We are closed on official American and Tanzanian holidays. An Embassy Duty Officer is on call after hours to assist with life and death emergencies.
