A Live On-Line Web Chat with Senior U.S. Official on Corruption in Africa

Strengthening Global Partnerships for Fighting Corruption and Ending Impunity

Dar es Salaam: On Wednesday, June 17th U.S. Department of State anti-corruption expert Diane Kohn will speak briefly about “Strengthening Global Partnerships for Fighting Corruption and Ending Impunity”, before engaging an online audience in a question and answer session. Viewers are invited to connect online where they will see and hear a live streaming video feed of Ms. Kohn along with a chat window that will carry a summary of the major discussion points. Viewers logged in from around the world are asked to submit their questions.

Fighting corruption throughout the world is a U.S. priority. The key to fighting corruption is a continued strong, coordinated effort among nations to build governance and law enforcement system that prevent and address corruption. The U.S. is focusing efforts on building capacity among those countries that are committed to fighting corruption, and will continue to work with African countries such as Tanzania, Liberia, Rwanda, Uganda, and Cameroon (representatives from which will be attending a three-day workshop in Dar es Salaam) and other international partners to provided targeted assistance to help prosecute corruption and recover stolen assets. The live webcast will cover these topics in more detail, and answer questions provided from the audience.

Speaker's Biography:
Diane Kohn is a lawyer, serving as an anticorruption advisor in the Crime Office within the State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics & Law Enforcement. Diane’s portfolio includes work in Africa, APEC, Latin America, the G8, and support for implementation of the No Safe Haven policy. As part of her duties, Diane represents the U.S. on the Committee of Experts for the review mechanism of the Inter-American Convention Against Corruption.

Before joining the State Department, Diane served as Program Director for the U.S. Chapter of Transparency International. Before starting her work in Anticorruption, Diane worked as public affairs director for the Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce, Executive Director of the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA), and Assistant Director for Latin American Affairs for the US Chamber of Commerce.

Diane earned her BA in International Economic and Cultural Affairs, and Spanish, from Valparaiso University (Indiana), and her J.D. from the George Washington University Law School (Washington, DC).
