TAWE Day

Tanzania Association of Women Entrepreneurs (TAWE) was formed
after a Citizen Exchange between the U.S. and Tanzania brought Tanzanian
women entrepreneurs to the U.S. in 1999, and they decided to use their
experience to strengthen Tanzania. TAWE’s goals are to develop and support
a strong network of women entrepreneurs, to provide training to members
in business management skills, to promote members’ businesses, and to
provide financial and legal advice. This year’s TAWE Day was sponsored by
the U.S.-based NGO Heartland International under a grant from the U.S.
Government, and TAWE itself. Hon. Dr. Didas Masuburi, Member of
Parliament for East Africa was the guest of honor. Dr. Masuburi pledged to
support TAWE activities in the future and offered support during the event.

As a part of this Citizen Exchange program, Americans from Heartland
International visited TAWE members twice this year to conduct trainings
and consultations, exchange ideas, and attend TAWE Day. In July, ten TAWE
women from five regions traveled to the Chicago, Illinois for a three-week
program on business development with Heartland International.
