On January 10, 2011 Public Affairs Officer Dr. Ilya Levin visited the University of Dar es Salaam School of Journalism and Mass Communication and met with Dean Dr. Bernadeta Killian and faculty members. Dr. Levin also toured the School's broadcast facilities housing Radio Mlimani, Mlimani TV and Hill Observer that cover Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Tanga, Zanzibar and Pemba and parts of Lindi, Dodoma and Iringa. The newspaper as well as radio and TV facility also provide training opportunities to the students.

Addressing the Dean and faculty members, the PAO spoke of the role of free professional media in a democratic society and underscored the necessity of maintaining journalistic integrity and high standards to secure public trust. He also passed on four boxes of gifts from the Voice of America office in South Africa.

Dr. Killian briefed PAO Dr. Levin on the School's plan to establish the Masters Program in March and asked the Mission to help the School secure assistance by a Fulbright Senior Specialist to help develop the new program's curriculum.
