In recognizing the achievements of the African American community, each year in February, Americans worldwide celebrate Black History Month. During this period, the American Embassy in Dar es Salaam has hosted a number of activities to celebrate African American Heritage including presentations to University and secondary school students, exchange alumni, Tanzania artists, and a documentary film about the racial divide in black America titled - "Two Nations of Black America". The theme of this year is "the History of Black Economic Empowerment".
