Mission Film Program Promotes Earth Day
April 24, 2012
On April 23, U.S. Embassy Dar es Salaam commemorated Earth Day by inviting 45 students and two lecturers from University of Dar es Salaam's Department of Zoology to view a documentary film titled "Wildlife Management Areas in Tanzania" (WMAs). The film was produced by USAID-Tanzania and introduced by Natural Resources Management Acting Team Leader Gilbert Kajuna. The screening was followed by a question and answer session in which students discussed the importance of WMAs to stop or reduce loss of wildlife populations and to encourage conservation of the environment by rural residents. Participants also discussed promoting sustainability of WMAs through good governance and partnership between the government, NGOs, and community based organizations. The program received positive feedback, including on increasing awareness on the responsibility of Tanzanians to preserve their WMAs and rich natural resources.
