Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Treasury at Chambezi, Bagamoyo

Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, Neal Wolin (second right) hears about developments by plant breeders at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture’s (IITA) cassava pilot plot earlier this week. The cassava project at the Chambezi Agriculture Research Institute in Bagamoyo is a pilot of the “Unleash the Power of Cassava in Africa” project funded by USAID. Deputy Secretary Wolin visited the site prior to meeting with President Kikwete and other senior government officials to discuss strategies to reduce poverty and drive economic growth in the country. The Deputy Secretary also announced a $37.7 million stimulus funding package to Tanzania which will target food security.
