U.S. Embassy sponsors Earth Day artwork contest
March 20, 2007
To commemorate the 37th anniversary of Earth Day on Sunday, April 22, the U.S. Mission in Dar es Salaam is sponsoring a national art competition for Tanzanian youth based on the theme, "What is important to you about our environment?"
Categories are for ages 10-11, 12-13, and 14-15. Three winners from each category will be selected and submitted to the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. for consideration as the top international prize for that age group. The international prize will be either the equivalent of one thousand U.S. dollars in local currency or a visit to the U.S.
The format for artwork is flexible, as long as it can be photographed to be submitted to Washington. Deadline for submissions is Monday, April 2. Judging will be conducted April 3 and winners will be announced on or about Earth Day, April 22. Throughout the month of April, the U.S. Mission will display a selection of the artwork submitted. Artwork and submissions will not be returned.
Entrants must submit their artwork to the U.S. Mission's Front Gate (attention Public Affairs Office) located at 686 Old Bagamoyo Road, Msasani, during regular business hours (Mon-Thurs 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday 7:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.), with the artist's full name, age and date of birth, contact information and a brief statement explaining their piece of art and what is important to the entrant about the environment. Submissions received after 5 p.m. on Monday April 2 will not be considered.
