TPDF Navy Officers Ride the U.S. Africa Partnership Station

April 18, 2008

The U.S Navy invited three Tanzanian People's Defense Forces naval officers to participate in the Africa Partnership Station (APS), as shipriders April 8-24, 2008, from Port Louis, Mauritius to Port Victoria, Seychelles. The TPDF officers taking part include navigators Maj. Richard Mutayoba Makanzo, Capt Baganchwera Traseas Rutambuka, and Capt Juma Muhagai Kassi, an engineer.

The purpose of the training is to provide the TPDF with the opportunity to train with the U.S. Navy and develop a better understanding of U.S. Naval operations. The U.S. is providing roundtrip transportation of the three officers to the boarding and debarkation ports.

The total cost of the 17-day training is $7,212.00 (approximately 8.6 million Tanzanian shillings). Financial support for this training comes from the American people and is part of overall U.S. Government direct and multilateral assistance to Tanzania of more than half a billion U.S. Dollars (over 750 billion Tanzanian shillings) this year.
