April 23, 2008

The U.S. Embassy in collaboration with Africa Regional Services (ARS) Paris organized a Digital Video Conference (DVC) with George Kazolias, a journalist at Radio France Outre-Mer/Agence Internationale d’Images TV (RFO/AITV) of Paris, on “Covering the U.S. Presidential Elections.” The DVC was hosted at the American Embassy on Wednesday April 23, 2008.

Mr. Kazolias discussed election reporting, including coverage of political party primaries and voting processes. He also discussed responsible electoral journalism, interviewing candidates, and reporting voters’ viewpoints. Journalists from various local media houses and the National Electoral Commission participated in the discussion. The discussion was followed by a question and answer session.

Mr. Kazolias has over 20 years experience as a radio and television reporter, editor, producer, correspondent and professor of journalism. Since 1984, he has worked with Radio France Outre-Mer/Agence Internationale d’Images TV (RFO/AITV) as a senior producer, editor and anchor for television news destined for the Middle East, Africa, South and Southeast Asia.

He has also been a professor of journalism at the American University of Paris since 1998, where he teaches introductory courses in print journalism, ethics and broadcast news. In 2003, while under contract with the Fondation Hirondelle, an organization of journalists that sets up and operates media services in crisis areas, Mr. Kazolias trained Okapi radio stations at United Nations bases throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo.
