Tanzanian Woman Architect for FORTUNE/U.S. State Department Women’s Mentoring Partnership Programme

Director and founder of Studio 7 Limited, Subira Mchumo is traveling to the U.S. on a U.S. State Department and private funded programme. FORTUNE/U.S. State Department Women’s Mentoring Partnership, a mentoring programme for emerging women leaders from around the world, starts on Monday, April 28 through Friday, May 23, 2008. Mchumo leaves the country on Saturday, April 26, 2008.
According to a statement from the U.S. Embassy, FORTUNE’s Most Powerful Women are comprised of well known CEOs and senior executives from some of America’s most prestigious companies and organizations. Mchumo will have unique opportunity to develop her management and business skills while gaining experience in the U.S. business environment by shadowing one of these top executives.
Mchumo’s programme includes a three-day short orientation in Washington, D.C., followed by a mentoring partnership under Kris Manos of Herman Miller and lastly a two-day debriefing in New York City. In this 2008 programme 35 participants from various countries have been selected, and will be attached to different FORTUNE companies.
In Washington D.C. participants will meet with U.S. government officials, academics and representatives of business associations for the orientation. After the Washington orientation Mchumo will travel to Herman Miller inc., to meet with her mentor Kris Manos, FORTUNE Most Powerful Woman and her team.
Mchumo will have the opportunity to shadow Manos and share skills and experiences with her at the same time learning about U.S. business culture. Mchumo will also engage in activities specifically designed by the company to meet her needs and interests. Herman Miller, Inc. is leading U.S. global provider of office furniture and services that create great places to live, learn, work and heal.

Mchumo heads, Studio 7 which is one of the leading architectural and interior consulting firms in the country. Studio 7 provides a spectrum of services including architectural, interior, and graphic designs, 3D animation, and construction project management.
FORTUNE/U.S. State Department Women’s Mentoring Partnership programme started in 2006. In that year the programme selected 17 women from 14 countries and the following year, 2007, 32 women took part in the programme.
Financial support for this programme comes from the American people and is part of overall U.S. Government direct and multilateral assistance to Tanzania of more than half a billion U.S. Dollars (over 750 billion Tanzanian shillings) in 2008.
