Americans Strengthen Health in Mikocheni B

Ambassador Mark Green and Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) Commander Admiral Greene, in conjunction with Tanzania’s Deputy Minister of Health & Social Welfare Dr. Aisha Kigoda, dedicated the Jaypal Singh Babhra Memorial Clinic on Thursday, May 15 in Mikocheni B.
The Mikocheni B Clinic project included the construction of a 10-office, 4-bathroom dispensary with a reception area, the installation of lights, ceiling fans, and all necessary distribution wiring. All plumbing, drains, and water supplies for bathrooms were also installed, along with two holding tanks. In addition two sanitary manholes were installed and connected to the municipal sewer and water system.
This $80,000 project (approximately Tsh/- 96 million Tanzanian shillings) comes from the American people and is part of overall U.S. Government direct and multilateral assistance to Tanzania of more than half a billion U.S. Dollars (over 750 billion Tanzanian shillings) in fiscal year 2008.
The mission of the CJTF-HOA is to conduct unified action with local military forces and government representatives in the Horn of Africa and Great Lakes region to prevent conflict, promote regional stability, and protect the region from terrorist and extremist activities. The service members of CJTF-HOA focus on military-to-military training, civil-military operations and senior leader outreach engagements. They aim to provide short-term assistance by supplying clean water, functional schools, better roadways and improved medical facilities to improve the lives of the communities in which they serve.
