America Celebrates its 230th Independence Anniversary
July 3, 2006
Americans all over the world will celebrate the 230th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on Tuesday, July 4th. America claimed its independence from Britain on July 4, 1776.
The US Embassy, including USAID, CDC and Peace Corps offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, in commemoration of the Independence Day. The offices will reopen on Wednesday, July 5.
In marking the celebrations this year, President George W. Bush paid tribute to the courage and dedication of those who created America, and celebrated the values of liberty and equality that make the country strong.
“The patriots of the Revolutionary War acted on the beliefs that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,” the President said, adding: “By advancing these ideals, generations of Americans have unleashed the hope of freedom for people in every corner of the world.”
President Bush offered gratitude to all the American patriots, past and present, who sought to advance freedom and lay the foundations of peace. Because of them, he explained, Americans can take pride in their history and look to the future with confidence.
Said the President: “Because of their sacrifice, this country remains a beacon of hope for all who dream of liberty and a shining example to the world of what a free people can achieve…May God continue to bless the United States of America.”
