Muslim students view film on Islam in America
July 29, 2009
In the Mission Muslim outreach activities, Public Affairs Section (PAS) invited Temeke Muslim Seminary students to view a documentary film showing Muslim life in America. The title of the film was “Islam in America,” it examined the five pillars of Islam and visited three generations in a Muslim community in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It also visited an Islam community in Quincy, Massachusetts where spiritual values are strengthened by fasting during the month of Ramadan. An Egyptian Muslim, now computer consultant near Boston, explained the spiritual impact of making the pilgrimage to Mecca. Muslims in a Toledo mosque shared memories of their pilgrimage. The film show was followed by a discussion lead by Vice Consul Andrew Halus; during the discussion the students asked questions, commented and also compared Muslim life in America and Muslim life in Tanzania.
