Press Release
American People provide Shinyanga with 9 Million Tsh/-for Youth Development Programs
October 29, 2008
U.S. Ambassador Mark Green visited Shinyanga Town on October 28th to inaugurate the successful completion of two self-help improvement projects, funded by the American people, at the Queen of Peace Youth Center and the Shinyanga Foundation Fund.
The American Embassy’s Self-Help Fund, part of the Ambassador’s Community Grants Program, provided Tsh 4,453,600.00 to the Queen of Peace Youth Center for the building of three water storage tanks. The Shinyanga Foundation Fund used an American grant of Tsh 4,570,800 to establish a brick making project through the purchase of three brick making machines and 230 bags of cement. Both projects are carried out to support youth programs in Shinyanga.
During one event, Ambassador Green noted, “In Shinyanga, reliable access to clean water is a challenge. But through American–Tanzanian partnerships, such as the Self-Help grants and the remarkable efforts of the Queen of Peace Youth Center, we will continue to contribute to building a great future for Shinyanga and the country of Tanzania.”
Each year, the American Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Fund directly provides money to community groups whose projects aid their local town/village. These grants come directly from the American People to the Tanzanian People. The two projects launched Tuesday, totaling 9,024,400 Tsh/-, are part of overall U.S. Government direct and multilateral assistance to Tanzania of more than 750 billion Tanzanian shillings in the just ended fiscal year 2008.
