November 17, 2008
The U.S. Mission, through the Combined Joint Task Force–Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) Civil Affairs Team donated several books to Mawaal and Al Noor African Muslim Society, Madrasa in Tanga region earlier this month.
According to a statement from the U.S. Embassy, the book donation was made on behalf of the American people through an American non-governmental organization (NGO), Brother’s Brother Foundation and the U.S. publisher Houghton Mifflin. The books are from a larger consignment of nearly 100,000 books valued at 2.12 million U.S. dollars (2.45 billion Tanzanian shillings) that are being donated throughout this country for the children of Tanzania.
This was the second book donation made to Tanga schools. The first donation of books was made to Kirare Primary School simultaneously with the October 22nd opening of a refurbished school, which also saw newly constructed desks constructed by members of the CJTF-HOA Civil Affairs Team. The family of one team member, Major Crist, and his daughter's elementary school in the U.S. donated several boxes of school supplies to the children of Kirare Primary school.
This assistance to Tanga schoolchildren comes from the American people and is part of on-going U.S. direct and multilateral assistance to Tanzania of more than 750 billion Tanzanian shillings this year. This assistance reflects America's dedication to improving the lives of Tanzanians and a genuine concern for the health, education, and future of Tanzania’s youth. The United States is committed to working with Tanzania to ensure access to quality education and a better tomorrow for all Tanzanians.
