39 New Peace Corps Volunteers Sworn-in in Morogoro

U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission D. Purnell Delly on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 administered the oath of office to 39 Peace Corps Volunteers (PCV). The swearing-in ceremony was held at Forest Hill Secondary School in Morogoro. The volunteers will serve for two years in various secondary and technical schools and teacher training colleges in the country.

In his remarks, Mr. Delly said the Peace Corps Volunteers will focus on teaching math, biology, chemistry physics and information technology in secondary schools and teacher training colleges respectively.

The schools at which the Peace Corps Volunteers will teach are based in Arusha, Singida, Kilimanjaro, Tanga, Iringa, Ruvuma, Mbeya, Morogoro, Pemba, and Unguja

He told the newly-minted Volunteers they are "true Ambassadors and represent the best face of America; know that each day, through your hard work and service, you are making the United States a very proud nation."

According to a press release from the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, the swearing-in ceremony was also attended by guest of honor, Minister for Education and Vocational Training Margareth Sitta, Morogoro Regional Commissioner Major General (rtd) Said Kalembo, and Peace Corps Country Director in Tanzania Christine Djondo.
