The U.S. Department of Defense Humanitarian Assistance Programme has donated medical supplies worth $ 91,348.76, to three hospitals and one health centre in Tanzania. Tumbi Special Hospital, Kibaha, has received the majority of supplies due to its proximity to the major road from Dar es Salaam to Arusha, and the hospital which receives the majority of serious car accident patients along this highway. Tumbi Hospital has received 1,659 items of medical supplies, worth $31,264. Medical supplies include beds, mattresses, desks, examining tables, surgical tools and medical consumable supplies.
Muheza District Hospital has received 1,433 medical supply items, worth $26,171.59. Muheza District Hospital serves a population of approximately 200,000 people. Bagamoyo District Hospital, received 848 items, worth $22,754.89, and Miono Health Center in Bagamoyo District received 461 items, worth $11,157.90.
All donations to Tumbi Special Hospital Kibaha, Bagamoyo District Hospital, and Miono Health Center, are a direct result of the good will and relationships that were developed during the NATURAL FIRE Exercise 7-18 August 2006, where TPDF and U.S. Soldiers and Marines worked together with local government officials to renovate the Msata Dispensary and construct the new Msata Health Clinic. These excess medical supplies will assist these medical facilities that affect the three Swahili Coast Districts of Kibaha, Muheza and Bagamoyo.
