Mark Green to Continue Strengthening American-Tanzanian Friendship During Last Thirty Days as U.S. Ambassador
December 19, 2008
On January 20th, 2009, as part of the peaceful transition between the Bush and Obama Administrations, Mark Green, current American Ambassador to the United Republic of Tanzania, will return home to the United States.
It is customary for the individuals the outgoing President appointed to tender their resignations to allow the newly-elected president to name his own personal representative as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America.
In his letter to President George W. Bush, Ambassador Green wrote, "Our partnership with Tanzania has led to great progress on some of the most important challenges facing the people of this region. From fighting the scourges of malaria and HIV/AIDS, to assistance with infrastructure needs and economic development, to working together against violent extremism, Americans are helping to lift lives and build communities in this important part of the world."
In a recent message to his entire team at the U.S. Mission, Ambassador Green remarked, "I love what I do and I know how lucky I am to serve here. We have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks, and I plan to do it. I will continue to do my best to help accomplish great things for America, Tanzania, and our strong bilateral relationship."
