U.S. mourns former U.S. President Gerald Ford

The U.S. flag flies at half-staff at the U.S. Embassy following the death of former President Gerald Ford who died on Monday, December 26, 2006 at the age of 93. The American Embassy will be closed on Tuesday, January 2, 2006.

According to the statement from the American Embassy, the flag will fly at half-staff for the mourning period of 30 days. A condolence book will be opened at the embassy’s main gate for the public to sign from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2006 and on Wednesday January 3, 2006 to Thursday, January 11, 2007 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday, January 12, 2006 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Ford was the 38th US president, and presided in office from August 9, 1974 to 1977. President George W. Bush said, "With his quiet integrity, common sense and kind instincts, President Ford helped heal our land and restore public confidence in the presidency "The American people will always admire Gerald Ford's devotion to duty, his personal character and the honorable conduct of his administration."
