Remarks by Ambassador Michael L. Retzer
I am honored to be here with you today for the inauguration of the Ilkisongo Pastoralists Initiative, Monduli School project. This project was a collaborative effort between the Ilkisongo Pastoralists Initiative Monduli School and the American Embassy. The main objective of this project was to provide 255 desks for three primary schools in the Monduli District Longido area. Kiserian Primary School, Losirwa Primary school, and Loirienito Primary School each received 85 desks for the children. There are nearly 500 primary school children that will benefit from this grant.
The United States Embassy’s Self-Help Fund promotes self-reliance through community action, striving to support projects that impact entire communities, through direct or indirect benefits. We believe in communities working together to better their own lives and today's event commemorates the fruits of your hard efforts. This project was a beneficiary of our 2005 allocation of $70,000.
As a community, you identified where this assistance could best be utilized and make a big difference in the students' day to day lives. We consider this a direct investment in the future of Tanzania, by supporting those who are taking actions to help themselves, and I am very happy to be here today to see the results of this investment. On behalf of the U.S. Embassy and the American people, I congratulate you and wish you continued success.
Asanteni sana!
