Dedication of Ziwani Primary School

Venue: Ziwani Primary School, Tanga Region

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

Remarks by Chargé d’Affaires Dr. Tulinabo Mushingi (as prepared)

This afternoon we celebrate the completion of our work to improve school buildings here in Ziwani. This work was achieved by a partnership between the American military and the Tanzanian People’s Defense Force. Our partnership received guidance from the leadership of Tanga Region, assistance from our colleagues at USAID, and funding from the American people. President Obama set ambitious goals to improve education in my country. President Kikwete greatly increased availability of education in Tanzania. Both leaders stress that educating children is an investment that creates a better future for all.

The work we and our partners have done will help the over 500 children from many different villages who attend school here. All of these improvements--the roof and foundation, doors and windows--combined with the commitment to quality education of Tanga region’s leadership, will result in these children learning more. As these children grow, their education will give them opportunities in life, bettering conditions in Ziwani and surrounding villages. That is development.

I congratulate the teachers, administrators, and community leaders who worked to bring about these improvements. And I wish you all, especially the students, great success in your efforts to better your lives, better your communities and better your nation! Asanteni Sana!
