Remarks by Bernice Logan of CJTF-HOA (As prepared)
Ladies and Gentlemen. First of all I want to thank you for inviting me here today to speak on behalf of the United States Mission and to express our excitement and support for this training workshop.
I would also like to extend a special thanks to the American artists here today who are travelling all over Tanzania sharing their talents and forging new relationships with their Tanzanian counterparts.
As you know, the United States Mission organizes a wide variety of cultural and educational exchange programs. These programs further expand opportunities, enrich lives, and help build a global community for the participants and everyone impacted by the programs.
Many programs, like this one, are implemented through our partner organizations. The Great Lakes Consortium (GLC) of Toledo Ohio is responsible for organizing this highly successful Women Artists Exchange program. To date the GLC has implemented five exchange programs in a variety of fields.
All of these exchanges include reciprocating visits from American counterparts to facilitate the exchange of ideas, experience, training and cultural interaction. This is why this delegation of American Artists is here today, and in September a Tanzanian delegation of women artists will visit the U.S.
Over the next 3 days, this program will bring emerging women artists in Tanzania together with professional American artists to illustrate how the visual arts can be used to express issues, engage others in the community, and promote tolerance and respect for women as artists and leaders.
Without the GLC, this successful program would not have been possible. We express our sincere thanks for their hard work on this program, and we look forward to opportunities for future cooperation.
On behalf of the United States Mission and the American People, I want to thank you for participating in this program, and thank you for sharing a bit of your culture with us. Good luck to you all in your training!
Asanteni Sana.
