Women as Leaders seminar

We are hosting another seminar in our monthly Student Enrichment Program series on Women as Leaders--Perspectives from Psychology.  This presentation on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. will be given at the American Embassy by U.S. Fulbrighter Dr. Julie Johnson-Pynn, Assoc. Professor of Psychology from Berry College.

This presentation will give an overview of unique leadership approaches of women. Psychological research has demonstrated that women’s successful leadership styles differ from those typical of men. Research in this subfield of psychology and women’s studies has practical implications for women’s professional development as leaders in occupations related to politics, academics, and business, and in securing human services related to health, education, and family security. Women who want to effect positive changes in themselves and others are encouraged to attend.

Dr. Johnson-Pynn is a visiting Fulbright scholar from the U.S. conducting research in Tanzania and Uganda on youth environmental activism and civic engagement. She holds a faculty position at Berry College, a co-educational private liberal arts college, whose mission is to develop the head, heart, and hands of students. Dr. Pynn’s primary teaching responsibilities are in psychology and education, and her research interests are interdisciplinary and international in scope. She collaborates with colleagues who study the behavior of children and chimpanzees, and with NGOs such as The Jane Goodall Institute, who advance wildlife research and community centered conservation initiatives.

To confirm your attendance, please register by emailing paodar@state.gov with names of those who wish to attend.  As there are events at the Embassy every other day, please be sure to include the name of this program (SEP: Women as Leaders Seminar March 14, 2007) in your email so we know what you are registering for.
